The Honourable David Peterson is Chairman of the law firm of Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP and Senior Counsel with GPC Public Affairs.
He serves as a director of several leading Canadian companies, including Rogers Communications Ltd., Rogers AT&T, and Cambridge Shopping Centres Limited, and is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of Xerox of Canada Inc. Mr. Peterson is the Chief Federal Negotiator for the Devolution of the Northwest Territories. He is also Chairman of the Ontario March of Dimes, a Governor of the University of Toronto, and a director of a number of charitable, cultural and environmental organizations. Mr. Peterson was also Founding Chairman of the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club Inc.
Mr. Peterson was Member of the Legislative Assembly from 1975 to 1990. He is a former Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, serving as Premier from 1985 to 1990. He is an Adjunct Professor at York University and speaks often on national and international issues, as well as being a frequent commentator on television.
Mr. Peterson was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1969 and appointed as Queen ’ s Counsel in 1980. He has received honorary doctorates from the University of Ottawa, the University of Tel Aviv, the American University of the Caribbean and the University of Toronto. In 1994, he was appointed by the Government of France as a Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honour. In 1995, the International Assembly of French-Speaking Parliamentarians presented him with the Ordre de la Pleiade.
